Thanks for the ideas Harvey. It is a challenge to figure out how to motivate people. I've found that people are most motivated when they feel fulfilled and valued in their jobs, like the matter. It helps for employees to have a sense that their talents and abilities are being used to good advantage and that they have room to grow.

Praise is also a strong motivator. I don't mean telling people their great as an empty gesture but more along the lines of praising people for the skills they do well and doing it continually.

A team leader called TL1 is motivated and is doing a great job.He/She loves her job and her team is a self-management team.
The team leader's boss has very little time for praising the performances of his/her team leaders, but the boss has noticed the excellence of the TL1,and mentiones will mention his/her performance in the appraisals in 9 months time.
In the above scenario what is the leadership challege faced by the boss and what should be done.??

Even as rewards are good motivators, it is not the only motivating factor around. People also get motivated when they are working for a leader who has the following traits:

1. Good memory
2. Genuine interest in people
3. Integrity
4. The ability to communicate effectively
5. Decisiveness
6. The ability to relax
7. Genuine enthusiasm.
