Harvey, this article brings back vivid memories of the time when I used to manage the Design Unit of a charity that raised USD62 million a year through public donations. So you can imagine the kind of performance orientation we had to endure. Jumping through hoops was a daily occurence. Motivating a creative team to perform miracles on a daily basis was emotionally draining because every few months, I would sink into depression, not having anyone to motivate me. Then, slowly I would pick myself up and start the race again, facing new challeges and emerging victorious. But it sucked not having a mentor, a person I could run to for encouragement and motivation. That would have made a huge difference.
